Waxing
+ Pre wax advise
- Let your hair grow out at least 1 cm. This will guarantee the most effective treatment.
- Gently exfoliate your skin before your appointment.
- Worried about sensitivity? Take a couple of Panadol an hour before your appointment. Needless to say, don’t go overboard but it’s not as bad as you think.
- Before and after your appointment, hold off getting that bronzed look from the sun or a tanning bed
- The appointment lengths are an estimate. If you are scheduled for a 45 minute treatment, it does not necessarily mean it will last 45 minutes. Believe us, we want to make it as quick and painless for you as possible.
+ Post wax advise
Don’t expect your skin to be perfectly normal post-wax. If you plan on sporting a swimsuit shortly after your wax, remember there may still be redness.
Wait 24 hours before:
- Applying any make-up, deodorant or moisturisers or exfoliating skin.
- exercising, including swimming to prevent any excess sweating. Raising your body temperature may irritate those freshly plucked follicles.
- Going in the sun/sun bed as skin will increase in sensitivity.
After your wax:
- Wear cotton clothing to allow your skin to breathe.
- Don’t shave between waxes – it distorts the hair growth cycle.
- Exfoliate your skin at least three days after your wax, using gloves or a mitt. This will ensure the hair can breach the skin’s surface and avoid ingrown hairs.
- Come back for your next wax in 4-6 weeks. This is the recommended amount of time between waxes, however, it is different for everyone. Discuss with your therapist when to book your next appointment.
+ What should I expect at my waxing appointment?
If it is your first time with us, your therapist will do a quick consultation with you to ensure the best results. Make sure you tell your therapist:
- The types of skin care you are using, such as retinol, vitamin A, skin lighteners, acids (glycolic, lactic, salicylic) etc.
- If you have ever had any problems with waxing in the past.
- About any allergies you may have.
- If you are shy or more comfortable with certain positions. There are no right or wrong ways, just different techniques. If you are used to something in particular, please let us know. We are here to make you feel comfortable.
Ask about post-wax exfoliating options if you have concerns.
+ What is the difference between Hot and Strip Wax?
Hot wax is spread thickly onto the skin and allowed to dry slightly before it is gently peeled away. This method is far less painful than most and pulls hair directly from the roots. The benefits include fewer in-grown hairs, less breakage and therefore longer re-growth periods. This wax also promotes skin hydration and is highly recommended for sensitive areas. Strip wax is recommended for thicker/less sensitive skin, like legs, arms, back, chest and shoulders. A thin layer of wax is applied to the skin and is then removed using a paper strip.
+ How often should I get waxed?
We recommend that clients come in for a wax every 4 and 6 weeks. This varies depending on the individuals hair growth cycle. To make the most of your waxing treatment it is important to maintain some sort of cycle. Hairs renew themselves in this time and having irregular waxing treatments means you have shorter hairs shooting through in between.
+ Will it hurt?
Every person has different pain thresholds and experience waxing differently. However most find it becomes easier with regular waxing as the hairs become thinner, lighter and sparser. Our specialised waxes and expertly trained therapists make the waxing experience as pain free as possible. Many things can influence the discomfort of a wax, including fatigue, menstrual cycle and medication. Your therapist will discuss with you at your appointment. A quick tip if you have a particularly low pain threshold, take a couple of Panadol 30 minutes before your treatment.
+ What is the etiquette for the various types of bikini waxes?
Basic bikini: You will be given the option to wear our paper knickers or your own knickers.
Extended bikini: Same as basic but G-string knickers are recommended should you choose to wear your own.
Brazilian: We will provide you with a paper G-string.
*NB: if you choose to wear your own knickers, we cannot assume responsibility for any oil or wax spilling onto the fabric.
+ Will a Brazilian be uncomfortable afterwards?
Our treatments should leave you with minimal discomfort because we use a very high quality wax and have highly skilled therapists. When the treatment is finished, the therapist will ensure no wax or residue has been left on the skin. Since we use hot wax, skin will not be sticky (which can happen with strip wax).
+ I'm pregnant and want a bikini wax. What would you recommend?
Waxing during pregnancy is very popular and our therapists are trained to ensure all parts of the body are waxed comfortably and safely. The Brazilian and extended bikini waxes are very popular treatments up to one week before the due date.
LVL Lash Lift
+ How does it work?
LVL products are used to straighten and lift the natural lashes. This has the effect of making the lashes look longer and more visible. A tint is also incorporated into the LVL treatment to further enhance the appearance of the natural lashes. No lash extensions are applied as part of the treatment.
+ What does LVL stand for?
LVL stands for Length | Volume | Lift.
+ Does it hurt?
No. In fact, clients often find LVL treatments extremely relaxing. They can relax and close their eyes during the treatment.
+ How long does an LVL treatment take?
The treatment takes approximately 45 minutes depending on the length and health of the natural lashes.
+ How long do LVL treatments last?
LVL applications can be expected to last approximately 6 weeks. If a tint has been used as part of the application, this may require a top up after 4 weeks.
+ Is there any maintenance involved?
No. If a client requires a tint top up, this can be conducted after 4 weeks.
+ Is LVL suitable for everyone?
Although LVL is great for many people, it’s not suitable for everyone. Those unlikely to be suitable fall into one of the following categories:
- People who’ve a medical contraindication to the treatment.
- People with brittle, fine or no natural lashes.
- Someone who’s experienced an allergic reaction to a sensitivity patch test.
+ I have downward pointing lashes. Can I have LVL?
Yes. LVL can provide lift to downward pointing lashes.
+ I am a man. Will LVL be suitable for me?
Yes. LVL is an excellent treatment for men’s lashes, which are often downward-pointing. Because LVL does not curl the lashes, it will straighten and lift the lashes opening the eye, without looking feminine.
+ Can I have lash extensions added to LVL?
Yes. Lash extensions can be added to LVL lashes. In fact, LVL treatments are particularly good for people who want lash extensions but have downward pointing lashes. Lash extensions can cause downward-pointing lashes to lower even further. With LVL they can get the essential lift they need before the extensions are added. Don’t forget though, clients must wait 24hours after their treatment before adding lash extensions.
Dermaplaning
+ What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a method of exfoliation that consists of using a surgical blade to gently remove the layer of dull, dead skin cells and vellus hair in order to reveal a smoother, brighter complexion.
+ Who can have Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is recommended for all skin types except those with active breakout and men with heavy facial hair. This is a great treatment if you are pregnant or nursing and want exfoliation without the use of chemicals.
+ How is Dermaplaning different from a peel?
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation process that does not use acids or enzymes to remove dead skin cells. All of the exfoliation is achieved during your treatment and you will not visibly shed skin after your service, while peels can result in dramatic peeling in the days following a service. Dermaplaning provides a good alternative to peels for those who desire professional grade exfoliation without the potential social downtime.
+ What should I expect during my service?
Dermaplaning is a painless treatment that includes deep cleansing, professional exfoliation in the form of dermaplaning followed by a restorative treatment and finished with skin care suited to your unique skin.
Dermaplaning has a similar sensation to a close shave which removes vellus hair and dead skin cells simultaneously.
+ How long is the treatment?
60 minutes.
+ What should I expect after my service?
You’ll immediately look more radiant with a more even skin tone and texture. While the main objective of this treatment is exfoliation, the immediately removal of peach fuzz is an added benefit which renders the skin exceptionally smooth and soft. Skin care products are better able to penetrate the skin following a dermaplaning service which allows them to work more efficiently. Your cosmetics will also go on smoother. After the treatment, your skin will be highly sensitive to sun exposure and may look pink, so be sure to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher to reduce the risk of hyperpigmentation.
+ Will my hair grow back thicker or darker?
NO! Dermaplaning will do neither as it has no effect on how hair grows – the speed of growth and colour is all a matter of genetics.
Dermaplaning targets vellus facial hair, which is fine and lighter in colour than terminal hair.
Dermaplaning does not interact with the hair follicle itself and cannot physically alter the growth pattern.
It is a common misconception that shaving causes hair to become thicker and darker because shaving (and Dermaplaning) splice the follicle. Hair is tapered at one end and when shaved becomes blunt, which can appear thicker and darker.
Neither is actually true nor is the appearance long term. Once that hair sheds from the follicle, the new growth will have a tapered end once again. With the exception of beard hair – in which case Dermaplaning isn’t advisable.
Leg hair, which is terminal, may appear thicker or darker, but facial hair will not!
